Will the Robot Master of human life in the future?

Hello guys, see you again with me, Ncen. Why is the title of the article so scary? Like in just films. Yeah, but I am no longer too, I want to write this article because I am quite interested in the idea that how robots have become (and will) be an important part of human life.

 Besides that, some time ago, I read 2 books that I thought were really cool and quite challenging my thoughts. The first book is titled Hit Refresh from Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft) and the second is Homo Deus from Yuval Noah Harhari.

 After I read these two books, I became quite curious, even staring far into the future about how technology can affect human life. Well, the technology that I mean is Artificial Intelligence (AI), also known as artificial intelligence. So, if we look at the current technological conditions, AI in robots is quite sophisticated, for example, let's take a look at this video:

What? After watching this, are you sure of Sophia's words that a smart robot like her will help human life in the future? Or you even see a robot as smart as this? To be able to discuss this further, I focus the discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

What is Artificial Intelligence?

In language that is easy to understand, AI was a machine that could do the cognitive functions like human beings do such as "think" and "solve the problem".

Keep what difference does it make dong machines with Artificial Intelligence (artificial intelligence) with an ordinary computer program?

Well, if a computer program without AI, it will only provide output in accordance with what we program. If there are variables that don't match the algorithm, it can't provide output correctly. While programs with AI are far more intelligent than ordinary computer programs.

 For example, when you type something on Google Translate, if the word/sentence you type turns out to be inaccurate, AI on Google Translate can help you to do it by giving suggestions. So actually AI is already in your daily life. In addition to the example of Google translate, there are also AIs in Google's search engine algorithms, personal assistants such as Siri & Cortana, strategic chess-rich games played on computers, and so on.

The current AI is more precisely called limited AI. The point is that existing AI "only" can perform certain functions such as face recognition or sound, search the internet, or run a car that can run on its own. Whereas in the long term, AI is predicted to be able to become an AI general.

General AI allows the creation of machines that can approach the human ability to do things such as thinking, communicating in a language that can be understood by humans and machines, reasoned, planned, and so on.

AI technology itself cannot be called a "new item" either. Even from the Classical Chinese Era, humans actually had the idea to make an AI, even at that time there was a simple robot that could move on its own, certainly not as sophisticated as Sophia, huh. 

Now, for modern AI technology as we use it today, the idea itself has been discussed since the 1940s, but because of the ups and downs of the development of human civilization (especially in the field of technology), AI has not been touched much at that time.

AI technology began to steal the public's attention again in the 1990s when a machine called Deep Blue defeated world chess game champion, Garry Kasparov. Then the public had another commotion when IBM Watson, an AI search engine made by IBM, defeated the Jeopardy quiz champion in the field of general knowledge. Recently AI technology has become a concern for many people.

In fact, in 2016 alone, the market value of all products related to AI, both hardware and software, reached a market value of more than USD 8 M (around Rp 108 T). The pace of AI development is not a trivial thing.

Pros and cons against AI

Well, this is the part that is really interesting to me did we discuss.

Pro

Currently, many AI once applied to be a product. Utilization of AI is already helping humans to solve various problems of weight and increase productivity in various fields such as:

In the world of health, AI is used in robots that help doctors. For example, Microsoft has developed an AI that can help doctors determine what types of drugs and treatments are ideal for patients. 

In addition, there are also National Medical Centers in Washington that have successfully used AI robots to assist surgery to patients. In hospitals, AI is very helpful in terms of medical diagnosis and heart rate analysis. Robots are also used to treat elderly people, consultations, and detecting tumors. It is estimated that there are 90 startups that develop AI in this health industry.

Automated robot development to perform medical operations.

In the automotive world, reputable companies involved with AI such as Tesla, Google, Apple, has researched the car without the driver. Some experts say that in the future people will get used to using a vehicle without a driver.
                                
In the economic and financial industries, AI helps in various things such as financial investment, financial reporting, share buying and selling, fraud and criminalization in banks, and others. In the world of.

aviation, AI is used to simulate flights so that pilots can be assisted by providing the best movement information, information on air and pressure conditions, and so on.

In the world of education, robot tutors have been introduced to the classroom to teach children from biology to computer science, although this has not been done much. Machine learning in AI is used to assess what things need to be improved on each student in the learning process.

In industry, robots are often found to replace humans, especially in repetitive work (over and over). Lo might've often clay automatic machinery in factories that help the process of production of a product.

In the field of Human Resources, AI used for recruitment process and human resource development. The AI used in determining the work that matches between applicants and job seekers. In the year 2016 and 2017, Unilever uses AI to employee selection which is entry level (that of the positions, create new employees entering the workforce who do not really need the experience really). 

Unilever uses the science of neuroscience, analysis of the face and voice in interviews, and others to get the best employee candidates. Unilever has cut working time from four months to four weeks and save 50.000 hours the recruiters.

In industry, robots are often found to replace humans, especially in repetitive (repetitive) work. Lo, maybe you often see automatic machines in factories that help the production process of a product.

Cons

Although it looks very favorable for humans, it turns out that AI is assessed potential to produce something that is dangerous to humans and the environment. Many expert computer technologies, as well as scientists & like Alan Turing, I.J. Good, Stephen Hawking, Marvin Minsky, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Stuart Russell, Peter Norvig, etc.,  said that the development of technology AI needs to be monitored because it can potentially harm humans at a later date. Human potential losses due to the AI, among others:

Human existence can become extinct due to the dominance of AI. Unlike humans, robots or AI machines are not bound to biological barriers. AI robots can only search for their own energy sources, and they don't need to worry about physical deterioration as humans do.

AI can just be too smart, so it enslaves humans.

AI can upgrade and update itself, so it does not cover the possibility for them to have the same or close to the consciousness of mankind.

The development of AI can occur unpredictably. When this happens, the AI will be difficult to be controlled by humans.

Another big concern is how AI will eliminate human employment. You can't imagine if one day at school there's no teacher anymore, but the instructor is a robot. Construction workers, waiters, and many other fields of work that will be replaced by AI. In fact, it's not just my job just now, a field of work that is loaded with aesthetics/art fields such as musicians, composers, writers, designers, etc. it can only be taken over by AI. This is very possible, you see, I just saw the example of AI Iamus.

Elon Musk, a figure who is quite vocal about the development of AI, is just horrified. He actively participated in monitoring the development of AI in order to create an AI that is safe for humans. Musk even contributed USD 10 million (around Rp. 135 billion) to Future of Life Institute in order to fund research on how AI made decisions. 

Musk also funded Google DeepMind and Vicarious to monitor what happened to the development of AI. This is all Musk did because he sniffed the potential danger in AI, so he really seriously monitored it so that the potential danger did not arise.
So actually AI is positive or negative for us?

Okay, I realize what I explained above is still a little part about the topic of using Artificial Intelligence. There are still many things that can be discussed. But here I want to give you a perspective on the pros and cons that exist. Hopefully my brief and solid explanation above can provoke your curiosity to explore more about this topic.
